MOBILE PHONE COMPANIES CALLED ON TO REDUCE THEIR TARIFFS FOR BRITONS STRANDED ABROAD
19 April 2010

South West Bedfordshire Conservative Parliamentary candidate and Shadow Minister Andrew Selous has called on the mobile phone companies to reduce the tariffs for Britons stranded abroad who can not fly home because of the volcanic ash over Europe.
Andrew Selous said, “I have been contacted by a constituent today whose 19 year old son is stuck in Spain. It is costing him a fortune to stay in touch with his family in South West Bedfordshire. His father would like the mobile phone companies to reduce their tariffs to UK rates for British citizens stranded abroad. Airlines could confirm to the mobile phone companies the names of their passengers stranded abroad. I have written to O2, Orange, Vodafone and Virgin to ask them to consider taking this action to help those who need it.”
