Up to 31st May 2020, 14,400 jobs had been furloughed through the Government's Job Retention Scheme in the South West Bedfordshire constituency, this is the equivalent to around 21% of the population aged 16-64. 21% had been furloughed in the UK.
South West Bedfordshire MP Andrew Selous has warmly welcomed the Government’s decision today to allow primary, lower and middle schools the flexibility to invite back an additional year group if they want to. The Government guidance released today states,
It is a great first step that zoos, including ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, will be re-opening on the 15th June. However zoos have lost their income during lockdown while having to maitain the large expenses of caring for their animals and are now in need of financial help.
I'm delighted to learn that some of our local schools are being trained to teach live online lessons to support work set online. I look forward to learning more from the Education Secretary next week about getting all children back to school in a safe manner.
