All Saints in Houghton Regis, the grade 1, listed church in the heart of Houghton Regis, in the centre of what used to be the old village, is one of the very few churches in Bedfordshire to be mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It remains a focal point for the community, hosting many important civic events. Like all old buildings it needs regular attention which is why the award of £13,000 from the National Churches Trust is so welcome.
The church has received a £3,000 Gateway Grant and a £10,000 Wolfson Fabric Repair Grant to fund urgent gutter and drainage work to make sure the church remains in good repair and open for local people and visitors. The responsibility for the upkeep of our churches falls on local people, with very limited support from central government.
Reacting to the grants, South West Bedfordshire MP Andrew Selous said “I’m delighted by the award of this grant. I know how important All Saints is to local people, and this grant will help the church stay a living and vibrant place for the local community for years to come. “
