Andrew Selous MP welcomes £2,733,304 of extra funding for schools in South West Bedfordshire. This comes as part of the Government’s plan to invest £2 billion in schools over the next two years and deliver the highest real terms spending per pupil in history. According to the Institute for Fiscal Studies, the national school budget is set to rise faster than forecast inflation, reaching £58.8 billion by 2025.
A typical primary and secondary school will each receive £35,000 and £200,000 respectively. First payments will be made by 10 May 2023. Schools will be able to choose how best to invest the extra funding, such as paying for teacher salary uplifts and teaching assistants.
The remainder of the £2 billion funding boost will be used to increase Pupil Premium funding rates, which are rising by five per cent in 2023–24. This extra funding will support disadvantaged pupils, local authorities’ high needs budgets, and special schools, making sure every child with special educational needs and disabilities receives the support and high-quality education they deserve.
Commenting, Andrew Selous said:
“I am pleased that the Government is committed to making a world-class education easily accessible. This funding will provide more opportunities to young people in South West Bedfordshire and help them reach their full potential.”
