Barclays officially opened its Barclays Local site in Leighton Buzzard with Andrew Selous MP.
Located at Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre, Barclays Local provides face to face support for customers, with colleagues on hand on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to offer financial support and education for customers, without the need to travel to a branch.
Barclays is committed to deploying a range of more flexible ways that customers can physically interact with the bank. The bank has opened over 300 Barclays Locals around the country in community locations such as town halls and community centres, where customers can make appointments or walk in to talk to our colleagues. Customers are also supported by a fleet of Barclays vans which travel to more remote areas.
Elizabeth Smith, Barclays Customer Care Director said: “We’re pleased to open a Barclays Local here in Leighton Buzzard, working with the local Library Theatre to offer a new, more flexible way for our colleagues to continue to support customers with their banking needs.”
Customers visiting the Barclays Local will be able to access a range of in-person support such as help with digital banking, financial reviews, balance checks, transfers and bill payments. As the Barclays Local site is a cashless site, everyday banking transactions will need to be completed at the local Post Office.
Barclays continues to review and adjust its branch footprint to ensure it reflects the way customers are increasingly choosing to do their banking. Following a branch closure, we work with the local community to find different, more flexible and sustainable ways for our colleagues to provide local banking support for customers who need to speak to us or aren’t yet ready or able to make the transition to digital.
Andrew Selous MP said,
"I was sad to see Barclays go from our High Street, but it is welcome that we have Barclays staff on the second floor of the library for three days a week and during my visit to see their service in the library last week, it was good to see how much this was being appreciated by Barclays customers."
