Speaking in Parliament today, the Chancellor of the Exchequer committed an extra £160 million to Police Counter Terrorism Funding for 2019/20 from which Bedfordshire Police will benefit. He then went on to say, “I recognise that policing more generally is under pressure from the changing nature of crime. I also recognise the representations made on this by many colleagues, such as my Honourable friend the Member for South West Bedfordshire and I can tell the House today that my Rt. Honourable friend the Home Secretary will review police spending power and further options for reform when he presents the provisional Police Funding Settlement in December”.
Speaking afterwards Andrew Selous MP said, “This is just what I wanted the Chancellor to say in the Budget today. I will not stop campaigning for fair funding for Bedfordshire Police until the money has been delivered and I hope this will be in just a couple of weeks now”.
