It was a proud day for our brilliant local NHS on Thursday at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital for the topping out ceremony of the major new site development at the hospital. Only 18 months after the groundbreaking ceremony attended by the Secretary of State, this £168 million project is a step closer to fruition.
It will provide a refurbishment and expansion of the emergency department, including paediatric emergency treatment and a new CT scanner. The new acute services block and new ward block will provide modern and enhance facilities for maternity, neonatology, critical care and theatre services.
The new energy centre will deliver a substantial reduction in energy consumption and has the ability to use hydrotreated vegetable oil to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
South West Bedfordshire, MP Andrew Selous said “It was a great pleasure to come to this topping out ceremony as this major redevelopment will provide much better facilities for patients and staff, and is an extremely welcome and important commitment to our local NHS and the brilliant staff who work in it.”
