South West Bedfordshire MP, Andrew Selous, is delighted to hear that two local social workers – Fareed Malik and Rebekah Pocock – have each received a national award in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the social work profession.
Amazing Social Workers is a campaign championing the exceptional work happening across the UK social work profession. It is run by the British Association of Social Workers (BASW), the UK’s largest professional body for social work.
The awards aim to shine a spotlight on the achievements of individuals and teams in the profession, whilst also highlighting the vital importance of social work to our communities.
Fareed Malik:
Fareed is a social worker at Central Bedfordshire Council, and has established himself as a standout social worker, making tangible differences in the lives of children and families through his practice. His nominator, Ben Feasmen, emphasised his conscientious approach, his support of other colleagues and his consistent prioritisation of the needs of children. Families have also praised his ability to build meaningful connections with those that he works with, creating a sense of trust that enables them to navigate challenges and make practical, positive changes. Fareed is a source of inspiration for the children and families but also for his colleagues and is thoroughly deserving of this award.
Rebekah Pocock:
Rebekah is a newly qualified social worker at Central Bedfordshire Council but has already demonstrated a level of skill and dedication that extends beyond her years of experience. Her nominator, Ben Feasmen, praised her proactive approach to addressing challenges, and her emphasis on personal well-being and utilising supervision effectively. Families she has worked with express profound gratitude for the level of support that Rebekah has provided through the most challenging times of their lives. Rebekah is a worthy recipient of this award, and her accomplishment is a testament to her work ethic and exceptional abilities.
A total of 148 individuals and teams were recognised this year, including frontline practitioners, students, managers, leaders, educators, and newly qualified social workers. BASW paid tribute to them by featuring their accomplishments on their website and social media channels throughout March and early April as part of their celebrations for World Social Work Day.
Commenting on the awards, Andrew Selous MP said:
“I am thrilled to hear that not one, but two local social workers have been recognised for their talents and dedication with this national award. Fareed and Rebekah have made standout contributions to the local community, and their hard work is testament to the efforts of social workers throughout the local area. A huge congratulations to them both.”
